…his incredible contributions didn’t stop at the lab. He played a role that is so critical for scientists– he was a powerful advocate.

ICAD joins the global HIV community in mourning the loss of Dr. Mark Wainberg, whose scientific and political contributions to the HIV field have been profound. “Dr. Wainberg leaves behind a legacy of tremendous contributions in the field of HIV, human rights and advancing the health and wellbeing of women,” says Robin Montgomery, ICAD Executive Director. “Dr. Wainberg’s scientific contributions were pivotal in changing HIV from a deadly disease to what is now, for many people, a chronic manageable disease.  But his incredible contributions didn’t stop at the lab. He played a role that is so critical for scientists– he was a powerful advocate”. Dr. Wainberg was instrumental in increasing access to treatment and has long been an outspoken voice for women-controlled HIV prevention options. His leadership and commitment to his work were an inspiration.

We send our deepest condolences to Mark’s family and friends.
