Innovative Funding Mechanisms

This section of the website will link you to all ICAD resources on Innovative Funding Mechanisms, keep you posted on ICAD and other upcoming events related to Innovative Funding Mechanisms, and link you to external resources and listservs on this topic.

At the Millenium Summit in 2000, participating countries set targets to achieve eight Millenium Development Goals by 2015 with funding through countries' Official Development Assistance (ODA). However, this was not sufficient so new ideas for funding the gaps have developed.

Innovative funding mechanisms for HIV and AIDS include:

Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (Debt2Health project)

UNITAID - is an organization, financed by a small air ticket levy, that works to make HIV, malaria and TB medications more affordable. Read the most recent UNITAID Civil Society Delegations Communiqué

Currency Transaction Levy (CTL) - would involve a small levy on the world's most traded currencies without creating any impact on the markets.
