Start a conversation. Know your health options. End the stigma.

The Canadian HIV/AIDS Black, African and Caribbean Network (CHABAC) and its partners are pleased to announce the sixth African, Caribbean and Black Canadian HIV/AIDS Awareness Day on February 7, 2022.

The African, Caribbean and Black Canadian HIV/AIDS Awareness Day will help raise awareness of HIV and contribute to addressing HIV-related stigma in Canada's African, Caribbean and Black communities. This commemorative Day is inspired by the National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day that has been observed in the U.S. on February 7 every year since 1999.

This year, CHABAC is endorsing the CDC’s National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NBHAAD) 2022 Campaign focusing on PROGRESS AND RESILIENCE. Our communities remain strong and committed to reducing HIV vulnerabilities despite challenging structural barriers including anti-Black racism, disproportionate impacts of COVID-19, and other social and economic inequities. NBHAAD has a series of posters and videos related to the campaign that you can download and share just click on the icons below.

Additional US-based resources on HIV testing, prevention, and treatment and strategies to stop HIV stigma

CHABAC also endorses the Canadian-based resource developed by the Ontario AIDS Network called StepForward, a 5-part podcast series developed to help fight against anti-Black racism in the HIV sector.

The series is hosted by Kondwani Mwase and produced by 54Lights and features Black leaders in the sector sharing insights on a key question: To what extent does white dominant culture and white supremacy impede the HIV public health response?
